Common types of stomach disorders

Celiac disease
Also spelled as coeliac, this is a disorder that affects the small intestines.

Common types of stomach disorders
This disorder usually begins in babies between six months to two years of age. Caused by a reaction to gluten, this disease meddles with the absorption of nutrients from food. Common symptoms associated with this disease includes chronic diarrhea, abdominal bloating, acute stomach ache, food intolerance, fatigue, constipation, vomiting and the like. Patients with celiac disease usually maintain a strict gluten-free diet.

GERD
Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD is caused when the valve between the esophagus and the stomach becomes weak or relaxes. This disorder makes the contents of the stomach to rise to the esophagus and cause an acid reflux that may trigger heartburn.

GERD causes symptoms of nausea, vomiting, sore throat, pain in the chest and the like.

CVS
Cyclic vomiting syndrome or CVS results in cycles of severe nausea that lasts for hours and at times days. CVS occurs among all age groups and surveys point at CVS to be related to migraines. Symptoms can be triggered in states of excess stress or excitement or by certain foods.

Peptic ulcers
These may sometimes be caused due to bacterial infections, however, mostly they result out of an overuse of anti-inflammatory medicines and painkillers. Ulcers cause abdominal discomfort and result in poor appetite, bloating, nausea, vomiting and the like.

IBD
Serious digestive disorders come under an umbrella term called IBD or inflammatory bowel disease. This stomach disorder may include Crohn’s disease and colitis. IBD is believed to be caused by a combination of weak immune system, genetic factors or environmental conditions Most common symptoms of IBD include chronic abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation or alternate bouts of diarrhea and constipation. Treatment of IBD is based on the severity of the issue and may range from changes in diet or lifestyle to medication and surgery.
