Thanks to their compact size and design, hatchbacks are highly versatile and practical cars. Because of this, they continue to be highly popular choices in the country. And among the various hatchback models, Volkswagen’s Golf stands out as a favorite. As for its newer versions, the Volkswagen Golf has a wide range of trim options in its catalogue, which can cater to different requirements. Across all trims, the car promises powerful performance and advanced features.

1. Models and trims available
The Volkswagen Golf has ten different models and trim options for buyers. These include Life, Match, Style, R-Line, Black Edition, GTE, GTI, GTI Clubsport, R, and R Black Edition.

6 Things to Know About the Volkswagen Golf
All of these trims mainly differ in terms of powertrain options, fuel options, and engine choices. For instance, the Life, GTI, GTI Clubsport, R, R Black Edition, and the Black Edition trims are only available in a petrol ICE (internal combustion engine) variant. In contrast, the Match and R-Line trims are available with petrol ICE, diesel ICE, and petrol mild hybrid engine variants. Likewise, the Style trim is available with petrol ICE and petrol mild hybrid powertrain options. The GTE trim is the only Golf trim with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. In addition to this, the trims vary in terms of fuel efficiency, performance, and the features they come with.

2. Engine options
Regardless of the trim buyers choose, they can be assured of a powerful performance, given the amazing engine options of the new Volkswagen Golf. The base trim Life comes equipped with a 1.5-litre TSI engine, which can deliver up to 115 horsepower. The same engine option is also available for the Match trim if one chooses a petrol ICE variant. For the Match trim, buyers can also select a slightly more powerful version of the 1.5-litre TSI engine, which can deliver up to 150 horsepower. This petrol engine, with a capacity of 150 horsepower, is also available as a choice for the Style, R-Line, and Black Edition trims. Similarly, for the mild hybrid variants, the VW Golf offers the option of a 1.5-litre eTSI engine, which can also deliver up to 150 horsepower.

The GTI and GTI Clubsport trims have a slightly more powerful petrol engine—a 2-litre TSI engine. However, they both differ in terms of the power they can deliver. The GTI trim can offer up to 265 horsepower, while the GTI Clubsport can offer up to 300 horsepower. Likewise, the R and R Black Edition trims feature an even more powerful 2-litre TSI 4Motion engine, delivering up to 333 horsepower.

The GTE trim, a plug-in hybrid variant, features a 1.5-litre TSI engine with a maximum of 272 horsepower as its backup power source. If buyers prefer a diesel variant, a 2-litre TDI engine is available. The Match trim with this engine can deliver up to 115 horsepower, while the R-Line can deliver up to 150.

3. Features for passengers’ comfort and convenience

In addition to its powerful performance, the Volkswagen Golf also excels in terms of comfort and convenience. So, along with the driver, every drive will also be a fun experience for the passengers. One of the car’s various features for comfort is the 3-zone climate control. This system allows the occupants to set three different temperatures for the three zones of the car: the driver’s side, the front passenger’s side, and the backseat. Besides this, the Golf also features heated front seats in all its trims for the utmost comfort for the driver and passengers.

The Golf also features interior ambient lighting to make the driving experience even more enjoyable. With this feature, passengers can set the perfect mood for the drive and even change it to match the music playing.

4. Features for drivers’ convenience

Often, the surroundings and the unpredictability of the weather can ruin a good driving experience. However, the Volkswagen Gold has certain features to ensure this does not happen. One of these features is the auto-dimming rear-view mirror. When the rear-view mirror detects high beams from the vehicles behind, it dims the panel to prevent inconvenience. Another feature is rain-sensing wipers. As the name suggests, this feature turns on the car’s wipers when it detects rain on the windscreen.

5. Safety and driver-assist features

The measure of a car’s reliability depends highly on its safety features. The VW Golf emerges as a highly reliable option with its advanced safety and driver-assist features. These features include the driver attention and drowsiness monitor, the pedestrian and cyclist detection system with emergency braking, the lane-keep assist system, and the rear traffic alert. The car also includes various features to assist with parking, such as a rear-view camera and front and rear parking sensors. It also features a high-beam assist system, automatically switching between dipped and main beams for the headlights based on the surroundings. The Golf also comes equipped with an emergency calling option for increased safety and security.

6. Pricing

The Volkswagen Golf has a starting price of around £27,420 for its base model, the Life trim. The Match trim has a slightly higher starting price of around £27,600, and the Style trim has around £30,000. This means that if buyers choose a higher trim, the car’s price will increase accordingly. Additionally, adding certain optional features to the car will increase its final price. Buyers should also note that the price of the car can differ based on the region and from dealer to dealer.
